Cement Mill operates three integrated cement lines with individual kilns of 166 tons per hour (TPH) capacity. The support trunion roller bearings on the kilns were lubricated by an ISO VG 460 mineral oil, which caused the factory to experience frequent unscheduled downtime. In addition, the oil needed to be replaced every 12 months due to contamination and oxidation.
The Mobil Lube Engineer analyzed the situation and recommended Mobil SHC™ 639 gear and bearing oil with excellent oxidation resistance at high temperatures. It also has a low traction coefficient, so it is able to reduce energy and operating temperatures.
Since the deployment of Mobil SHC 639 gear and bearing oil, cement plant productivity has improved along with the operational reliability of the kilns. Annual savings of US $27,677 per kiln have also been achieved. In summary, the benefits resulted from:
- Reduction in operating temperature of the bearings by 10°C
- Oil drain interval extended by more than 2.5 times
