Mobilith SHC™ 220 grease for plant efficiency success story

Decrease in ID fan operating temperature of

34°C
temperature
bearing close

Situation

At Mitcharoen Palm Oil Co., Ltd., a non-Mobil™ grease was used for the bearings of the Induced Draft (ID) fan and fibre blower unit. The grease needed to be refilled every two days because it would leak out of bearings at high operating temperatures of up to 104°C.

Recommendation

The Mobil Lube Engineer evaluated the operating conditions and recommended replacing the lithium complex grease with Mobilith SHC™ 220 grease, a multi-purpose, NLGI 2 extreme pressure synthetic grease, to reduce the operating temperature and the need for regreasing.

Result

Since the implementation of Mobilith SHC 220 grease, plant productivity has improved and an annual cost savings of US $5,480 has been achieved. In summary, the benefits resulted from reductions in:

  • Operating temperature of ID fan from 104°C to 70°C
  • Operating temperature of fiber blower unit from 88°C to 44°C
  • Unscheduled downtime, resulting in improved plant productivity
